Best Dressed Chicken in Town (Watch Out for the Colonel)

I wasn’t really feeling the Temptations today.  The sun is out and spring is near, which means it’s time for some Jamaican music.  Bob Marley was my first introduction to reggae.  From their I discovered more island music, including dub.  Dr. Alimantado’s Best Dressed Chicken in Town (1978) is one of the finest Jamaican roots albums I’ve had the pleasure of hearing.  It is loaded with skanky dub, fat basslines, bizarre lyrics, reverb, delay, and other studio wizardy.  The good Dr. is aided by the presence of dub legends Lee “Scratch” Perry, King Tubby, and Scientist.  My old roommate introduced to Dr. Alimantado’s awesome compilation, which consists of tracks recorded from 1972-1977.  Check it!

Allmusic has a real nice, in-depth review of Dr. Alimantado’s effort,
